How to watch Bugonia in the UK – is it streaming?
The latest from madcap Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos is up for four Oscars including best picture.

In the last decade or so, Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos has become something of a regular fixture at the Oscars.
Although he'd previously seen a couple of his earlier films – including Dogtooth and The Lobster – pick up single nominations, the real breakthrough came when his 2018 period drama The Favourite received nine nominations, including an eventual best actress win for star Olivia Colman.
His follow-up to that film, 2023's Poor Things, fared similarly well with the Academy, this time garnering 11 nods and winning four including another best actress victory, this time for Emma Stone.
And while his last film, the anthology Kinds of Kindness, did not repeat that success, he's back in the mix this year for his latest effort Bugonia – which is up for four awards including best picture.

What is Bugonia about?
The film is based on the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet! – written and directed by Jang Joon-hwan – and follows events after two conspiracy-obsessed young men, Teddy and Don, make a move to kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, Michelle Fuller.
The pair are utterly convinced that Michelle is an alien who has been sent to Earth intent on destroying the planet, an accusation which she balks at.
However, despite her denials, Teddy and Don press ahead and torture her for information, desperate to prove that their theory is correct. No spoilers, but it all leads up to a very memorable ending.
If you've seen any of Lanthimos's previous films – including The Lobster, The Favourite and Poor Things – you probably have an idea for the mode of black comedy in which he operates, and the tone of this film very much feels of a piece with the rest of his filmography.
Bugonia cast: Who stars alongside Emma Stone?
The cast is headlined by Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons – both of whom have attracted awards attention for their performances, including an Oscar nod for Stone and BAFTA nominations for both.
They are joined in the cast by debutant Aidan Delbis as Don – the autistic cousin of Plemons's character Teddy – while Alicia Silverstone has a memorable role as Teddy's mother Sandy and comedian Stavros Halkias plays police deputy Casey Boyd.
- Emma Stone as Michelle Fuller
- Jesse Plemons as Teddy Gatz
