Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

The first Escape Plan was a solid, enjoyable action thriller that saw Sylvester Stallone trying to break out of an escape-proof prison. Sadly, the sequel was so poor that Stallone openly condemned it on social media. Escape Plan 3 is an improvement on the second, but it's still far from great. This time, prison security expert Ray Breslin (Stallone) isn't escaping from a secure facility - he's leading a rescue mission. This takes his team to a large prison in Latvia, where hostages are being held by a man (Devon Sawa) who wants revenge on Breslin. Sawa is a decent villain, but Stallone gets much less screen time than you might expect, while co-star Dave Bautista gets even less. The fight sequences well staged, but the story doesn't hold the attention, and there isn't much drama, tension or excitement. Stallone deserves better.
