Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Young adventurer Dora (Isabela Moner) contends with the new experience of high school, before travelling with her new friends to find her missing parents. Based on the popular cartoon Dora the Explorer, this peppy action comedy skips along as pleasantly as its unflappable heroine. Any peril the young group come across usually ends with an inspirational message... or a fart joke. It's clear from the outset that this is for young children, however there are a few gags that will appeal to older viewers who remember the show (such as Dora's parents being baffled by her habit of breaking the fourth wall). The animated sidekicks are also a sign that this is played for laughs rather than realism, as a monkey and a fox steal the show whenever they are on screen. Dora & the Lost City of Gold is charming fun for parents who want to give their kids a safe introduction to Indiana Jones-like thrills.
