The Gruffalo series to get sequel with new character – more than 20 years after last instalment
The Gruffalo's family is expanding.

Beloved children's author Julia Donaldson has confirmed she has written a new story about her iconic character, the Gruffalo, and will be introducing a new character.
Gruffalo Granny will mark the third book in the series about the creature and his family and friends, and currently is due for release in September.
As previously, it will be illustrated by long-term collaborator, Axel Scheffler.
Donaldson made the exciting announcement during an appearance on BBC Radio 4's Today programme (Friday 6th February), saying: "It'a always a challenge to write a sequel. I've had this idea for the best part of two decades but I've just been so busy writing other things. And now of course I'm a granny myself, so maybe that's what spurred me on..."
Scheffler added: "I've been saying for more than 20 years there wouldn't be a sequel, and it's taught me to never say never. It was a complete surprise for me, but Julia came up with such a wonderful story and I got very excited about it."

The Fox, Snake, Owl and Mouse will all return for the sequel.
So far, one line has been revealed: "The Gruffalo said to his daughter one day, your Gruffalo Granny is coming to stay."
The Gruffalo was first published in 1999, with The Gruffalo's Child following five years later.
It was turned into a short film for the BBC by Magic Light Pictures in 2009, with a star-studded cast made up of Helena Bonham Carter, Rob Brydon, James Corden and more.
The film would go on to be nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the 83rd Academy Awards.
The Gruffalo's Child was adapted in 2011 with the same cast returning.
The Gruffalo's Granny will be released on 10th September 2026. You can pre-order it here.
