2021 is well underway now, and while it might be an odd time for most of us, the cast changes for Neighbours are continuing on just like every other year.
The soap celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2020, which included plenty of deaths, returning characters and newcomers.
This year has already seen the return of some old favourites, and we now know that there are at least three major characters who will be saying goodbye to Ramsay Street over the coming months.
Read on for your essential guide to the Neighbours cast, to see who is on the way out, who is arriving, and who is returning to the Channel 5 soap.
Bonnie Anderson (Bea Nilsson)
Bea will be departing the show later this year, but actress Bonnie Anderson only has great things to say about her time on Ramsay Street. “I was like a pig in mud at that place,” she told the Sunday Herald Sun of her time on the show . “Neighbours really changed my life for the better in so, so many ways. I was 23 when I joined the show and it has really shaped me into the person that I am today.”
She added: “I have overcome a lot, I have grown and I am proud of the way I live my life. It was really good to have that structure and now after three and a half years on that show I have decided it is time for me to continue challenging myself and create space to focus on my music, songwriting and more acting.”
Sharon Johal (Dipi Rebecchi)
It has been a tough few months for Dipi in Neighbours and we can’t say we blame her for wanting to head off for a fresh start. Actress Sharon Johal confirmed on social media recently that she is hanging up the apron at Harold’s and leaving Erinsborough behind her.
Her exit scenes are expected to play out in the UK in April, providing the crescendo to a strong spell of storylines that have almost seen the end of Dipi’s marriage. While Dipi and Shane (Nicholas Coghlan) are in the early stages of a reunion, now seems like the best time for them to move away to be with their younger children who need them the most.
Nicholas Coghlan (Shane Rebecchi)
As mentioned, it is not just Dipi who will be waving goodbye to Ramsay Street as Shane is also off! The last 12 months have been a rollercoaster for Shane, who has been dealing with the near end of his marriage, drug addiction and a relationship with former Neighbours favourite Amy Greenwood (Jacinta Stapleton).
The departure of Shane and Dipi will certainly free up space in number 30, and it also leaves some questions up in the air, like who will be taking over the running of Harold’s Store? Our fingers are crossed for Melanie.
Shane and Dipi joined Neighbours in 2017, and with all the ups and downs they have had we are pleased that it looks like their departure will be a happy one.
Cameron Robbie (Jessie Porter)
Cameron Robbie will be joining the Neighbours cast as Jessie Porter in the coming months, and the young actor has a very famous connection to Erinsborough. You guessed it, his sister is Hollywood superstar, Margot Robbie, who appeared in Neighbours between 2008 and 2011 as Donna Freedman.
Little is known about newcomer Jessie, but he’s already been described as a “wealthy lifeguard”, who takes on a summer job at the Lassiters’ bar. We can expect to see him on screen in March, according to Digital Spy and Australian viewers have already seen him master the “Baywatch lifeguard run”.
Scott Major (Lucas Fitzgerald)
Lucas is making a brief return to Erinsborough in the coming weeks and once again it is staff problems at the garage that pull him back – with Bea’s job now on the line! Speaking about coming back to the show again, Scott, who is also a director for the Channel 5 soap said:
“I always love walking onto the Neighbours set. I’ve been there on and off for around 13 years now, so it feels like a home away from home. I still feel very honoured to be part of such an amazing, inspirational show”.
