Marvel's Eyes of Wakanda has finally premiered on Disney Plus, dropping four episodes all at once to help tide fans over until we learn more about Black Panther 3.

The series, which explores the history of the fictional MCU nation, is executive produced by celebrated filmmaker Ryan Coogler, who helmed the first two Black Panther films as well as this year's breakout hit Sinners.

Eyes of Wakanda co-writer Marc Bernardin told SuperHeroHype that the two-time Academy Award nominee "very much digs the show," and encouraged its new ideas in a memorable meeting with the creative team.

"To get to talk to Ryan about Wakanda, about the War Dogs, and about the world as he saw it through the prism of Wakanda — that was phenomenal," recalled the screenwriter.

"To pitch some things to him – and all of us did who were in that room – [and] for him to say, 'Oh, that's dope, I love that, we're going to do that...' I had to call my mom and tell her!"

Having Coogler on its side certainly won't hurt Eyes of Wakanda's odds of a second season, but it remains unclear whether Marvel Animation's latest offering will continue beyond its four-part debut.

Here's what showrunner Todd Harris had to say about a potential Eyes of Wakanda season 2.

Will there be an Eyes of Wakanda season 2?

Marvel Animation and Disney Plus hasn't yet renewed Eyes of Wakanda for season 2.

A first look at the show was unveiled in August 2024 at fan convention D23, where it was described as an "event series" (via Total Film), which some fans interpreted as meaning limited to a single run.

However, showrunner Todd Harris has since debunked this speculation, telling SFX in a more recent interview that "there are always more stories" and his team would be keen to delve into them.

"No artist, no writer, no anybody ever does too little when it comes to creativity," he concluded. "I've never seen anyone turn in the script and go, 'It just wasn’t long enough!' So yeah, we definitely have more in the tank. And it's Marvel – there's always more."

So, it seems that the fate of Marvel's Eyes of Wakanda will depend on its popularity, with strong viewership sure to help push Disney Plus in the direction of a season 2 order.

One comforting fact in the show's favour is that the streamer has been supportive of its earlier animated projects, allowing Marvel's What If...? and Star Wars spin-off The Bad Batch to complete their respective stories with three full seasons.

It seems there's certainly a space for animated franchise fare on the platform, so if Eyes of Wakanda can win the hearts of critics and viewers, it could well return to explore more of the influential MCU location.

We'll update this page with more information on Eyes of Wakanda's renewal or cancellation status as it comes in.

What could happen in a potential Eyes of Wakanda season 2?

If Eyes of Wakanda were to return for a second season, it would most likely explore more bygone periods in the history of the fictional African nation.

The first season presented a different point in time with each of its four episodes, including one entry featuring an incarnation of the Iron Fist – a superhero mantle passed down through generations, much like the Black Panther.

A second season could expand further on how these two dynasties relate to one another as well as taking viewers to as-yet-unexplored eras of Wakanda during its lengthy isolation from the rest of the world.

It's not clear who, if anyone, would return for a second season of Eyes of Wakanda as the show's time-hopping nature means that an all-new voice cast is a genuine possibility.

That said, fans will no doubt be hoping that their favourites from the first run can have a second chance in the limelight. Here's a reminder of the key players in Eyes of Wakanda season 1:

  • Winnie Harlow as Noni
  • Cress Williams as the Lion
  • Jona Xiao as Iron Fist
  • Steve Toussaint as a covert agent

Is there a trailer for a potential Eyes of Wakanda season 2?

Alas, there's no additional footage from Eyes of Wakanda just yet, but we'll update this page if anything else emerges.
