After The Wheel of Time's controversial cancellation at Prime Video, a fan petition calling for it to be either revived at Prime Video or picked up by another streamer has hit a major milestone.

More than 200,000 fans have signed the petition calling for the fantasy series based on Robert Jordan's novels to be "saved" after it was cancelled following its third season.

The petition addresses Sony Pictures Television, Prime Video and other streaming services, and points to the show's strong critical and fan reception as well as reported viewing figures.

It also praises the show's dedication to diversity and inclusion, and its loyal fan base.

According to Deadline, Prime Video made the decision not to renew the series following "lengthy deliberations", with financial reasons reportedly being the primary decision maker.

Following the cancellation, cast and crew behind the scenes of the show have weighed in.

Showrunner Rafe Judkins issued a lengthy statement, calling for the series to hopefully continue elsewhere.

Part of his statement read: "I believe that we will find our way through this current iteration of the industry and back to what we do best – bringing great characters into people's living rooms and lives every week."

He concluded: "Will The Wheel of Time get to do that with another network and finish the story? Sadly, it's not something that happens often.

"But it does happen. In fact, one of the reasons we first chose Amazon as a home for the show was because they were in the midst of picking up The Expanse after SYFY cancelled it.

"So, who knows, perhaps The Wheel of Time show will do what the books have always managed to do since day one – defy the traditional definitions of 'beginnings' and 'ends'. I certainly hope it does – because this book series and these fans deserve to see the story finished."

Stars Rosamund Pike, who played Moiraine Damodred, Josha Stradowski, who played Rand al'Thor, and Madeleine Madden, who played Egwene al'Vere, are also among those to have addressed the cancellation.
The Wheel of Time seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Prime Video.
