Relationship: Best friends

Maz: 46, Essex, Mental health practitioner

Max: 41, Essex, Tech strategist

Maz and Max are headed into The Fortune Hotel to play the long game, but don't necessarily have a strategy in order to win.

"We didn't go in there with a plan but we wanted to be in the experience for as long as possible," Max explained. "So we evolved to every situation and the characters as we went on."

Chelsey and Briony

Relationship: Best friends

Chelsey: 34, Wigan, Cleaning business owner/Content creator

Briony: 33, Wigan, Cleaning business owner/Content creator

Keen for an adventure, Chelsey and Briony signed up for the series after watching season 1, and plan to do "whatever it takes" to remain in the competition.

But the ladies have no game plan when entering, with their only strategy being to "go in there and be ourselves"!

Atholl and John

Relationship: Father and son

Atholl: 30, Scottish borders, Waiter

John: 58, Scottish borders, Retired police officer

Father and son duo Atholl and John decided to apply after John's wife began watching the series, and soon he and Atholl became hooked.

As for how they plan to play the game, Atholl's tactic is to "listen and observe", while John said: "You build information up; you can identify people you can work with and then people that are severe competition who you'll look to get rid of."

Jake and Mike

Relationship: Brothers

Jake: 29, Wigan, Construction worker

Mike: 33, Wigan, Energy surveyor

Unlike the other contestants, Jake and Mike didn't watch last season of The Fortune Hotel, but as soon as they saw a holiday to the Caribbean and a chance to win £250,000 on offer, it was a no-brainer and they signed up!

Allan and Jacob

Relationship: Couple

Allan: 38, Aberdeen, Events & aviation

Jacob: 34, Huddersfield, Cabin crew

After watching season 1, the couple thought to themselves that if there was a TV show they could do, it'd certainly be The Fortune Hotel.

"We found it on a whim and we were hooked straight away," Allan said. "It's so funny as we've stayed in some amazing hotels as cabin crew, but this blew the rest of them out of the park! Most importantly, it's doing it together, as a lot of TV and game shows you're by yourself. We doubled our chances by doing it together!"

Gurks and Guv

Relationship: Friends

Gurks: 28, Leicester, Commercial manager

Guv: 25, Leicester, Poker player and salesman

Like many of the other contestants, the friends watched season 1 last year and soon thought they could also rise to the challenge.

Gurks told ITV: "We watched the first series and we thought we had good chemistry together, as at the time we were doing a lot of skits. So we thought, you know what, let's have fun with it, let's see how far we can actually go! This show was so good for us because we could literally be ourselves."

James and Yasmin

James and Yasmin stood in front of a briefcase as they open it.

Relationship: Dad and daughter

James: 45, Huddersfield, Carpet fitter

Yasmin: 23, Huddersfield, Teaching assistant

James and Yasmin are taking part in The Fortune Hotel to show people that life can carry on after cancer, after experiencing it first-hand in their family.

James explained: "My son, James, got diagnosed when he was 19 with Hodgkin lymphoma, and we wanted to give something like this a go. When I got through he told me, 'Do it, just do it! What an amazing thing.'

"James is in remission and was going back to uni, so Yasmine came. She wasn't complaining when she was on the beach with a cocktail!"

Nella and Tope

Nella and Tope stood in front of a briefcase which they are opening with mute expressions.

Relationship: Couple

Nella: 31, London, Senior financial accountant

Tope: 34, London, Finance business partner

Observant Nella and people person Tope are heading into The Fortune Hotel with an interesting tactic to go far in the game.

"We wouldn't want the money to begin with, if we had it we'd give it away," Tope explained. "It's like a boomerang, we can keep track of it and hopefully it will come back."

Sue and Jeremy

Relationship: Mother and son

Sue: 59, Halifax, Residential property management

Jeremy: 23, London, Tech broker

For Sue and Jeremy, it was the latter of the two who was immediately keen to go on the show.

Jeremy explained: "Number 1 reason, being part of the line-up, there was a good chance of winning the money, so it was financial. Second reason, I got to go on the show with my mum, which was a really nice opportunity, you don't get those opportunities often!"

Sue was unaware at first what Jeremy had signed them up to, but once it was confirmed they were going on the series, she was "hooked" and rewatched season 1 multiple times.

Fred and Min

Fred and Min stood next toe ach other on beach attire, smiling ahead.

Relationship: Life partners

Fred: 60, Blackpool, Retired

Min: 59, Retired, Blackpool

Planning to fake it until they make it are Fred and Min, who were wary of the other players.

"I was terrified of saying the wrong thing," Min said. "We were finding our feet so didn't have time to mingle as such."

Martina and Briony

Martina and Briony sat down next to each other as they speak to people in front of them on the other side of the table.
Martina and Briony. ITV / Tuesdays Child

Relationship: Mother and daughter

Martina: 68, Brighton, Office manager

Briony: 32, Brighton, Declutterer

Briony and Martina were both keen for a different experience, and when The Fortune Hotel rolled around, it seemed like an no-brainer to take part.

"At my age, people would think you couldn't do something like this; I wanted to prove them wrong," Martina explained. "Briony rang me and said, 'Do you fancy going to the Caribbean for a holiday?' And I said yes!"
