Beginning tonight (10th February), the reality series follows 14 brave contestants from all walks of life as they come together to face the daunting challenge of climbing a mountain.

With just 14 days to reach the summit, and an equal share of the prize fund in their backpacks, the contestants have to navigate treacherous terrain, wild conditions and overcome extraordinary challenges - set by the mysterious Mountain’s Keeper - that block their path to the peak.

But just where is the exciting new series filmed? Read on to learn more about the thrilling location behind The Summit.

The Summit was filmed in the Southern Alps in New Zealand.

Speaking of filming on location in New Zealand, host Ben Shephard told RadioTimes.com and other press: "It's my favourite country in the world, I travelled there when I was 19.

"So to go back in this extraordinary backdrop and to film a show that's all about adventure and challenges, and these 14 remarkable people, just ordinary people facing this extraordinary challenge. It was an absolute thrill. Every step of the way was jaw dropping, not least for the contestants or the contributors, but for the backdrop, for the challenges, for the drama and the way that Matt and Andy [and] the team had put this show together."

The Summit begins on Tuesday 10th February at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
