Will there be a Lynley season 2?
There are plenty of other cases for Lynley and Havers to crack – but will they get the chance?

All four episodes of new BBC crime drama Lynley are now available to stream on iPlayer, meaning viewers can binge their way through this new take on Elizabeth George's novels.
Starring Leo Suter, Sofia Barclay and Daniel Mays, the series follows Tommy Lynley, the role previously played by Nathaniel Parker, an outsider to the police force due to his aristocratic upbringing.
Meanwhile, his partner in the police force Barbara Havers, previously played by Sharon Small, is here seen as a sergeant with a maverick attitude and a working-class background.
Despite their differences, they come to form a strong partnership as they tackle cases in East Anglia and Cambridgeshire. But, with plenty more mysteries for the duo to solve, will they be back for further episodes?
Read on for everything you need to know about Lynley season 2.
Will there be a Lynley season 2?

We don't yet know whether there will be a Lynley season 2. Nothing has currently been confirmed about the drama's future, so for now we will just have to wait for further news.
The series first aired in September 2025 on BritBox in the US, but has only just arrived on BBC iPlayer in UK as of January 2026. Therefore, it's perhaps unsurprising we don't yet know whether a season 2 is on the cards, as it will likely depend partly on viewership this side of the pond.
However, we would certainly imagine that the plan is to make more episodes, should the demand be there. There is still plenty more to adapt from Elizabeth George's source material, with her book series currently being made up of 22 novels.
We will keep this page updated as and when we get any news regarding the future of Lynley on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
When would a potential Lynley season 2 be released?

We don't yet know when Lynley season 2 would air, given that the show hasn't been officially renewed. However, there is a precedent for BBC crime dramas to air annually, and given that the series doesn't feature any major special effects, it should be fairly quick to turn around.
We would therefore imagine that we could potentially see season 2 in 2027 at the earliest – although, of course, that is just speculation for now.
Who would star in a potential Lynley season 2?

If Lynley does return for a second season, we can't imagine it doing so without Leo Suter and Sofia Barclay returning as Tommy Lynley and Barbara Havers respectively.
We would also expect the rest of the central cast to return, including Daniel Mays, Niamh Walsh, Michael Workéyè and Joshua Sher – although, of course, none of this has yet been confirmed.
You can find a list of the Lynley cast members we would expect to be back for season 2 here:
- Leo Suter as DI Tommy Lynley
- Sofia Barclay as DS Barbara Havers
- Daniel Mays as DCI Brian Nies
- Niamh Walsh as Helen Clyde
- Michael Workéyè as DC Tony Bekele
- Joshua Sher as Simon St James
Is there a trailer for a potential Lynley season 2?
There isn't a trailer for Lynley season 2 yet as not only has it not been filmed, the show hasn't actually been officially renewed yet.
If and when any new footage is released, we will make sure to add it into this article here, but in the meantime you can rewatch the season 1 trailer now.
