The final episode of Cross season 2 has now been released on Prime Video, with Aldis Hodge's hero racing to stop Luz in her murderous quest, but also bring Lance Durand to justice.

It was a fast paced finale which saw Cross facing off with enemies on multiple sides, and ultimately making a shocking decision which sets up a very different start to a potential third season.

But what did happen in the finale, what threads were left hanging and did Durand face justice for his crimes?

Read on for everything you need to know about the ending of Cross season 2.

Cross season 2 ending explained: What happened to Lance Durand?

First, Luz killed Nat, cutting her throat during a fight in which she also got injured. She then took Durand himself hostage, and planned to bury him alive in a grave alongside Nat.

Cross and Sampson managed to intercept her, and while she escaped, they were able to save Durand. Following a delay, he was able to launch his Prosperity Seed.

Cross gathered plenty of evidence in order to prove Durand's use of human trafficking and slave labour, as well as his guilt in exploiting minors to do his dirty work.

However, the higher-ups at the bureau told him they couldn't go after Durand — if they did, it would damage America's standing in the world right, as the country was being praised for tackling world hunger.

They wanted to take the evidence off him, but Cross knocked out Roy and escaped with the drive containing the evidence.

He went on the run, with the likes of Elle, Sampson and his police team helping him along the way.

Kayla realised that he would be taking the evidence to Senator Ashford's office, hoping to persuade him to do the right thing as penance for his mother's corruption. The Senator took the drive and, while stood with Durand in front of the press, revealed the truth.

Ashford put forward a new bill, the Corporate Responsibility Bill, which would mean CEOs would be held responsible for the crimes committed by their companies. He confirmed that Durand would answer for his crimes and would be the first of many. He then personally thanked Cross for his work in bringing the crimes to light.

What happened to Luz?

Cross got a message to Luz, confirming to her that her aunt, Clare, had taken $50,000 from Durand, and set her mother up to die. They then let Clare go, using her as bait.

After a confrontation between Luz and Clare on a bridge, Cross and a team of officers moved in. It seemed like it was over, but Clare pulled a gun, making the officers shoot and kill her on the spot.

Luz then jumped off the bridge, falling to her death.

What happened to Kayla?

Kayla was promoted following the success of the job in catching Luz, taking Roy's role after he too was promoted.

There was one major plotline that wasn't followed up on in the finale, that of the secret programme Kayla was involved in experimenting on soldiers.

The last we discovered from this storyline was in the penultimate episode. Bobby Trey had found Maggie, the mastermind behind it all who had faked her own death, and was holding her at gunpoint.

This storyline could still well come back to haunt Kayla in future seasons.

What happened to Cross and Sampson?

Following Ashford's public statements in his favour, Cross was exonerated and freed, having been taken into custody by the FBI. He was even in line for a commendation and a promotion, but instead, he surprised his team with a shock move.

Cross handed in his gun, revealing he felt disillusioned with the system after so many people were willing to look past Durand's crimes.

Meanwhile, Sampson made up with Nana Mama after his mother refused to testify against her partner. Nana Mama also gave him his father's details, revealing that he wanted to meet him.

Sampson stayed with the police and tried to change Cross's mind, but it was in vain. Cross drove out of there, on to pastures new to find a new calling.
