The Couple Next Door season 2 ending explained: What happened to Mia?
Let's break it down.
The Couple Next Door returned to screens earlier this month for another sexed-up, high drama affair – with fatal consequences.
In the show's second season, surgeon and anaesthetist Charlotte (Annabel Scholey) and Jacob (Sam Palladio) were a seemingly solid couple, that is until Mia (Aggy K Adams), a mysterious nurse from Norway, thrust her way into their lives and caused chaos, while Charlotte's ex-boyfriend Leo (Sendhil Ramamurthy), who she left for Jacob many years ago, was also back on the scene.
"The first series was about two couples that collided with each other – a square," said writer David Allison.
"Whereas this is more two love triangles with Charlotte and Jacob within those triangles, one with Mia and one with Leo. So the dynamic is really different."
Heading into the finale, tensions between the various dynamics had reached breaking point, teasing an explosive conclusion that would change all of their lives for good.
So, what happened? And where did we leave the major players as the final credits rolled?
Read on for a rundown of how The Couple Next Door season 2 wrapped up.
The Couple Next Door season 2 ending explained
Who was Mia really? And what was she running from?

We learned that Mia's real name is actually Kasia, and she's Polish, not Norwegian.
On her 16th birthday, her criminal parents were arrested and she was taken into care, where she met Isak, a therapist who was employed to help her work through her trauma after losing her family, but instead he groomed her.
Then, when she was released from the care system, Mia moved in with him and they got engaged, before she eventually decided to leave with the case of stolen money her parents had left her.
"You kept me in a f**king cage," she said to Isak when he finally managed to track her down after coming across the photo of her at a gala in Leeds.
She recalled how he threatened to tell everyone about the stolen money, including her colleagues at the hospital where she used to work. He then turned up at her place of employment, where she spotted him talking to a senior member of staff.
Isak later claimed that he was simply there to invite people to their engagement party when really, it was another manipulation tactic, designed to keep her under his thumb.
But a short time later, she packed up and fled.
Who was killing patients in the hospital?

Two patients in Mia's care died, while Leo's father, who was terminally ill, wasn't quite ready to shuffle off this mortal coil when someone entered his hospital room and unplugged the monitor, before he was found dead a short time later.
But it wasn't Mia who was responsible, as it initially appeared, but Jacob, who had engineered it to look like she was the culprit.
Jacob was on shift with her the night one of the patients died. The anaesthetist claimed Mia had distracted him with her flirting and as a result, he forgot to administer potassium, which is when the patient began to go downhill. He decided to administer it anyway, but it was already too late.
Then, when the other patient died of natural causes, he decided to make it look like the deaths were connected by amending a medical record under Mia's name. The matron had also witnessed Mia almost mistakenly administer morphine to said patient, before she was quickly stopped, which added to the cloud of suspicion around her.
That, combined with the death of Leo's father, who she was tending to shortly before his death, the prescription drugs, which Jacob had planted in her locker, and the disparaging remarks she had made about one of the deceased patients (due to him sexually assaulting her, which she decided not to report), ensured that all eyes were on Mia – with Jacob hopeful that his tracks would be covered and his marriage, the collapse of which he blamed on Mia, could be repaired.

But Charlotte discovered that her husband was responsible for changing the medical records and eventually, Jacob admitted what he had done – although he had no intention of admitting it to anyone else.
No, Jacob remained determined to pin the whole sorry saga on Mia by poisoning Charlotte and writing a fake suicide note in which his wife admitted to lying for Mia, who she said had altered the records, and confessing that she had fallen under her spell, in turn humiliating herself professionally and destroying her marriage.
But Jacob's plan was foiled by Leo, Gemma and Ben, who were already onto him after discovering the CCTV of him entering Leo's father's room, and he was subsequently arrested, while Charlotte made a full recovery.
What happened to Mia and Isak?

After making certain that Charlotte was okay, Mia decided to leave Leeds, heading to Paris, Munich and then Antwerp, of all places, where she previously enjoyed a threesome with Charlotte and Jacob on their honeymoon, as you do.
Mia had also sent Charlotte a postcard in which she encouraged her to visit if she "ever wanted to rekindle things" – and the expression on the surgeon's face suggested that she was fantasising about doing just that.
We also learned that Mia's now working as a tour guide on a boat and in the final scene, she can be seen smiling at a couple, in the way she once looked at Charlotte and Jacob...
As for Isak, Alan called the police after he learned of the abuse he had inflicted upon Mia. The pair then wrestled, with Isak throwing Alan down the stairs, before he fled with Mia's money.
But despite the police arriving, we later learned from Alan that Isak had managed to evade capture.
