With Apple TV set to release a new adaptation of Cape Fear later this year, a first-look trailer has now been unveiled, showing Amy Adams, Javier Bardem and Patrick Wilson in their key roles.

The unsettling trailer sees happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) living what appears to be a perfect life, but they are in the shadow of Max Cady (Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars.

Cady is seen re-appearing in their lives and, according to Anna, coming for their family, seeking vengeance.

Throughout the trailer, we hear Max saying "you deserve this" – while a shot of blood splattering suggests some seriously dark repercussions are in store.

You can watch the full trailer right here now.

The new series is being showrun and executive produced by Nick Antosca, who has previously been behind series including Brand New Cherry Flavour, Candy and A Friend of the Family.

Meanwhile, both Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are on board as executive producers, having worked on Scorsese's 1991 film adaptation of Cape Fear together.

Joining Adams, Bardem and Wilson in the cast are Joe Anders (1917), Lily Collias (Roofman), Malia Pyles (Pretty Little Liars) and CCH Pounder (Avatar: Fire and Ash).

The first two episodes will debut on Friday 5 June 2026, followed by new episodes every Friday through to 31 July.

This is the third screen adaptation of John D MacDonald's novel The Executioners, after Gregory Peck’s 1962 film version and Scorsese's remake, which starred Robert De Niro in the role of Max, and Jessica Lange and Nick Nolte in the roles now played by Adams and Wilson, although both of the characters' first names have been changed in this adaptation.
