The Crown casts Dominic West as Prince Charles for season 5
The Wire actor joins Tenet's Elizabeth Debicki, who will play Princess Diana.
Netflix's The Crown season five has officially found its new Prince Charles.
Dominic West (The Wire, The Affair) will take on the role of Charles, played by Josh O'Connor in season four. He joins Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet, The Night Manager) as she takes over as Diana from Emma Corrin. Debicki had been confirmed for the final two seasons last year.
Rumours that West would be playing the Royal in the hit Netflix drama had surrounded the actor for months. The news was confirmed via a tweet on The Crown's official Twitter account on Tuesday 17th August.
In July 2021, the streamer also released a first-look image of Imelda Staunton as The Crown's new Queen Elizabeth II, following on from Olivia Colman's two-season stint in the role. Jonathan Pryce joins The Crown season five as Prince Philip (who was played by Outlander's Tobias Menzies), while Lesley Manville takes over as Princess Margaret from Helena Bonham Carter.
Casting for some major key players of the time period The Crown's fifth and final seasons will cover are yet to be announced, including Tony Blair.

A release date for The Crown's fifth series hasn't been confirmed, but we do know that the royal drama will not feature present-day events, most likely ending in the late '90s.
Creator Peter Morgan’s said in a statement tweeted by Netflix: "As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons."
He added: "To be clear, series six will not bring us any closer to present-day – it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail."
