Comedy series Scrubs has only been back on our screens for just over a week, with the revival launching 16 years after the original series ended, but already thoughts are turning to whether it will get a season 2.

The revival, which has been praised by critics and fans alike, has been executive produced by creator and original showrunner Bill Lawrence, while Aseem Batra has stepped in as the new showrunner.

The series launch received strong ratings, with 11.36 million viewers turning in across ABC, Hulu, Disney+ and digital platforms. Now, Lawrence has said that he and the team are "hopeful" that the show will continue beyond its first new season.

Lawrence told Deadline: "We’re all crossing our fingers that they let us do a whole bunch more, but we’re really hopeful."

Scrubs stars Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid, Zach Braff as John 'JD' Dorian, and Donald Faison as Christopher Turk – they are stood together at the reception desk of a Sacred Heart hospital ward.

This isn't the first time Lawrence has spoke about a potential second season. He previously also told Deadline that original series star Ken Jenkins would return as his character Dr Kelso, were a second season to be greenlit.

"Dr Kelso will be back next year. It just didn’t work out this year but it will next year," he said.

Regardless of Scrubs's continuation, Lawrence is certainly busy. His Apple TV shows Ted Lasso, Shrinking and Bad Monkey are all set to return for new seasons, while his new series Rooster is about to start airing on HBO in the US and Sky in the UK.

That series is set on a college campus, and stars Steve Carrell as an author who tries to bond with his adult daughter as she goes through a crisis.

Scrubs season 10 launched on Disney+ UK on Thursday 26 February 2026. Sign-up to Disney Plus from £5.99 a month.
