In the wake of the sweeping and devastating layoffs at Microsoft, people have been searching for any good news – and their prayers may be answered as new Fallout games are reportedly in production, including Fallout 3 Remastered.
That is, according to Video Games Chronicle journalist Jordan Middler, who revealed as much during episode 73 of the Friends per Second podcast as part of a wider discussion about the future of Xbox following the cancellation of titles such as Crystal Dynamics’ Perfect Dark, Rare’s Everwild and a new MMO that was in development by ZeniMax Online Studios, the studio that created The Elder Scrolls Online.
In the episode, Middler said that Xbox is throwing resources behind the post-apocalyptic franchise, saying, "Fallout is the big one," and adding that there are "multiple Fallout projects in development, including, as far as I’m aware, that one that I’m sure you’re all wanting".
"It’s not far enough in along to say anything like 'you’re going to be playing this game anytime soon'," he continued.

Afterwards, Middler went on to quip, "Anyway, New Vegas 2, coming soon," but this appears to be in jest more than anything.
Though, considering Microsoft owns Obsidian, the developers of Fallout: New Vegas, as well, one can dream…
Previously, during the Microsoft vs FTC court case, it was leaked that Fallout 3 Remastered was planned, alongside Oblivion Remastered, which has since released to much acclaim.
Given just how well the Oblivion remaster performed, it seems highly likely that a Fallout 3 remaster will continue in earnest.
This isn’t even to mention the Fallout TV series, which won many awards and brought in many millions of viewers on Prime Video.
With potentially lots of new fans to tap into and a legion of old-timers desperate for a new Fallout game or remaster, the stage is set for Microsoft to try and win back some much-needed trust.
Famously, Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Game Studios, in 2021 for a cool sum of $8.1 billion.
Since then, Bethesda has had somewhat of a rocky time, with some huge-hitters such as Doom: Eternal, Doom: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but also the coolly received Starfield and Redfall, the poor reception to which saw the closure of Arkane Austin, the studio behind Prey (2017) and Deathloop.
