The upcoming Prime Video series will adapt the recent God of War reboot from Sony Santa Monica, focusing on the Norse storyline.

As such, Kratos's son Atreus is set to play a central role in the series, sparking widespread speculation as to who will take the role.

Now, via Deadline, it has been revealed that Atreus will be played by 12-year-old Callum Vinson.

While young, Vinson has already appeared in a variety of film and television roles, including Dead Ringers, Long Bright River and Poker Face, and is set to appear in upcoming roles in The Night Agent season 3 and Friday the 13th prequel Crystal Lake.

Vinson will join Ryan Hurst, who will play his on-screen father Kratos, alongside a cast including Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Thor), Teresa Palmer (Sif), Mandy Patinkin (Odin), Max Parker (Heimdall), Alastair Duncan (Memir), Jeff Gulka (Sindri) and Danny Woodburn (Brok).

In adapting the games, the series will follow Kratos and Atreus's journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye, with Kratos and Atreus teaching one another to become a better god and better human, respectively.

While pre-production on the first season of God of War has only just got under way, Amazon has already ordered a second season, with Outlander creator Ronald D Moore heading up the writing.

Fans looking forward to the adaptation will no doubt also be keeping their eyes peeled for news on the next God of War game, with developer Sony Santa Monica remaining staunchly tight-lipped on their plans for the future of the franchise.
