Disney's ongoing project to remake its most popular animations as live-action films appears to be going nowhere any time soon – and the studio has now announced casting news for its upcoming remake of Tangled.

After months of speculation – and plenty of fan casting – it's been confirmed that the roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider will be played by Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim respectively.

Australian actress Croft has previously starred in the Netflix original film True Spirit and is probably best known for her role as Raven in the DC series Titans, which ran from 2018 to 2023.

Meanwhile, Manheim has played the leading role of Zed in a number of films in the Disney Channel musical series Zombies, while he was also previously a contestant on Dancing with the Stars, finishing second in 2018 when he was just 17 years old.

For both stars, this will be the biggest roles of their careers so far – and it will be interesting to see if starring in such a well-loved property elevates them to more major parts in the future.

No further casting has been announced for Tangled thus far, but Better Man and The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey will be helming the project and according to The Hollywood Reporter attention will now turn to finding the film's villain, Mother Gothel.

The original Tangled – a musical retelling of the classic fairytale Rapunzel – was released back in 2010 and has become one of the most popular Disney releases of the 21st century, with songs such as I've Got a Dream and I See the Light both becoming hits.

Last year saw two new additions to Disney's live-action remake catalogue, with both Snow White and Lilo & Stitch arriving in cinemas, although to vastly different results. The former was a box office dud, while the latter became one of the highest-grossing movies of the year after taking in over $1 billion.

Meanwhile, later this year it's Moana's turn to get the remake treatment – with Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as demigod Maui from the original animation and young star Catherine Laga'aia playing the title character.
