Tangled live-action remake tipped to honour beloved fan-casting for Mother Gothel
Fans have long campaigned for the actor to play the character.

Disney fans might be getting their wish: Kathryn Hahn is reportedly in talks to play Mother Gothel in the studio’s live-action Tangled remake.
Gothel serves as the manipulative antagonist in the 2010 film who uses Rapunzel’s magical hair to stay eternally youthful.
Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson was briefly considered for the role back in October 2025, when development on the film resumed after a long hiatus.
But the actor dropped out due to scheduling conflicts tied to The Batman: Part II and the upcoming Exorcist reboot – and fans quickly began to campaign online for Hahn to take on the role.
Deadline now reports that the Agatha All Along and The Studio star is in discussions about playing the villain.

It was recently announced that the film will star Titans actress Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Disney Channel star Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider – roles which were previously voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the animated version.
Reacting to the news, Manheim shared a side-by-side picture of himself and the animated Flynn on Instagram and wrote alongside in the caption: "Too grateful to put into words."
He added: "I will do him justice, I promise."
Behind the camera, Michael Gracey, who helmed Better Man and The Greatest Showman, is directing, while Kristin Burr, who produced Freakier Friday as well as 2021’s live-action Cruella, is producing.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who co-wrote and helmed Do Revenge, penned the script.
