I Know What You Did Last Summer cast: New and returning stars in slasher reboot

The original film in the series was released back in 1997 and was almost instantly followed up with a sequel just one year later, but since then fans of the franchise have had to make do with just a standalone straight-to-DVD effort in 2006 and a TV series modernisation on Prime Video back in 2021.

But now the franchise is back on the big screen for the first time since the '90s – with original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr along for the ride and joined by a new cast of young stars.

Chase Sui Wonders plays Ava Brucks

Who is Ava Brucks? One of five friends who find themselves hunted by The Fisherman, one year after they killed a pedestrian in a car accident and covered up their crime. Ava takes on the lead role in investigating who is behind the mysterious threats.

What else has Chase Sui Wonders been in? Rising star Wonders had a notable role in the comedy-slasher Bodies Bodies Bodies, while earlier in 2025 she had a main part in Seth Rogen's Hollywood satire series The Studio. You may also recognise her for roles in the TV shows Generation and City on Fire, or her film role in Sofia Coppola's On the Rocks.

Madelyn Cline plays Danica Richards

Who is Danica Richards? Another member of the friendship group, Danica is celebrating her engagement at the start of the film – and isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

What else has Madelyn Cline been in? Cline is best known for her main role as Sarah Cameron in the hit Netflix teen drama outer Banks, and she also had a key role in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Other film credits include Boy Erased and This is the Night, while she appeared in two episodes of Stranger Things season 2.

Jonah Hauer-King plays Milo Griffin

Who is Milo Griffin? Ava's ex, who is also a member of the group of friends stalked by The Fisherman.

What else has Jonah Hauer-King been in? Hauer-King's role started with roles on a number of BBC dramas – including 2017 adaptations of both Howards End and Little Women and the Second World War drama World on Fire. His biggest film role so far was playing Prince Eric in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, while more recent TV credits have included The Tattooist of Auschwitz and the role of Conrad Clark in Doctor Who.

Tyriq Withers plays Teddy Spencer

Who is Teddy Spencer? Another member of the friendship group, Tyriq is something of a jock and was previously engaged to Danica.

What else has Tyriq Withers been in? Withers has appeared in a number of TV shows including Atlanta, Tell Me Lies and The Game. Last year he starred in another remake of a '90s film – in that case, black comedy Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead – while he has a major role in the upcoming Jordan Peele-produced horror Him.

Sarah Pidgeon plays Stevie Ward

Who is Stevie Ward? At the start of the film, Stevie is estranged from the rest of her friend group – but comes along with them on the road trip which leads to the fateful accident.

What else has Sarah Pidgeon been in? Pidgeon's previous roles have mainly come on the small screen – with notable parts in both The Wilds and Tiny Beautiful Things. On the big screen, she recently starred alongside Bill Murray and Naomi Watts in The Friend.

Jennifer Love Hewitt plays Julie James

Who is Julie James? A survivor of the 1997 Southport massacre, Julie moved away from town some time ago and is now working as a professor of psychology.

What else has Jennifer Love Hewitt been in? After an early role on teen drama Party of Five, the original I Know What You Did Last Summer was Hewitt's big break, and she's went on to appear in projects including films Heartbreakers, The Tuxedo and Garfield: The Movie, and TV shows such as Time of Your Life, Ghost Whisperer, Criminal Minds and 9-1-1. She also previously had a pop music career, releasing four solo albums between 1992 and 2002.

Freddie Prinze Jr plays Ray Bronson

Who is Ray Bronson? Another survivor of the original film, Ray is still living in Southport where he is now the owner and operator of a local bar.

What else has Freddie Prinze Jr been in? Aside from the previous I Know What You Did Last Summer films, Prinze Jr had roles in She's All That, Down to You, and Summer Catch – while he notably played Fred in the live-action Scooby-Doo films. On the small screen, he had the lead role in the short-lived sitcom Freddie, and a recurring part on 24, while he voiced Kanan Jarrus in Star Wars Rebels and has recently been seen hosting WWE Rivals.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is released on 18th July.
