Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Taking its visual cues from the Wes Anderson school of film-making, this British comedy follows teenager Omar (Antonio Aakeel) as he travels to Blackpool in search of his father, helped by his half-brother Pete (Jack Carroll). Director Jason Wingard's film contains many witty and sincere reflections on family, race and disability, but not all the jokes find their mark. The two young stars lift the material with a believable bond, playing brothers who are hugging one minute and wanting to strangle each other the next. Carroll is the film's most valuable asset, with comic timing and a screen presence that suggests there's more to come from the young actor. With a supporting cast filled with recognisable names such as Johnny Vegas and Asim Chaudhry, this is a pleasant seaside trip that has its heart in the right place.
