The X Factor is welcoming Simon Cowell back to the judging panel this year and he’s confident that when it comes to seeking out talent he’s the man for the job.
“Of course, I’m the daddy,” he tells us of his talent-seeking skills on shows like the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
Doesn’t that mean he’s the one shouldering all of the responsibility? Yes, “I don’t mind that” he grins.
It certainly seems Mr Cowell is in a playful mood. Given the history between him and fellow returning judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who had a swift exit from the US version of the show, he’s coming armed with some banter.
“Just a bit. Well, she’s easy to wind up Cheryl. She tries [to get me back].”
What if Cheryl picks on his trademark unbuttoned shirt or his silky hair? “I couldn’t care less what she says about that,” he laughs.
Of course Cowell, alongside Louis Walsh and Mel B too, is on the show to find the next big name in music. He’s on the hunt to replicate the success of bands like One Direction, Little Mix and solo artists like Leona Lewis. “I always want a star. Someone who’s going to sell records all over the world. That’s all I care about.”
