Set in a parallel universe, Comet bounces back and forth over the course of an unlikely but perfectly paired couple's six-year relationship.
This bittersweet, time-hopping relationship drama follows a bickering couple as they endure a series of ups and downs. Dell (Justin Long) is an anxious sceptic who is able to make accurate, Sherlock Holmes-like deductions about everyone he speaks to. One night, he falls for a young woman named Kimberly (Emmy Rossum), who proceeds to challenge his pessimistic attitudes towards life and love. From there, the story flashes between various points in their six-year relationship, which may or may not be playing out across several parallel universes. Frustratingly, this aspect of the film is under-served and marginally confusing, while there are times when the writing is slightly too clever for its own good. Happily, though, the performances are commendable and the zippy, back-and-forth dialogue is consistently enjoyable. The end result might remind you of other, better, films - (500) Days Of Summer, Annie Hall - but it's still a great watch in its own right.
