It's hard to say the Winter Olympics 2026 curling competitions are only heating up now given they already reached boiling point during the double-touch 'cheating' controversy but it is getting extremely tense out there at the Cortina Olympic Curling Stadium.

Team GB are still in the hunt to progress to the semi-finals in both the men's and women's events, but neither side is in control of their own destiny.

Men's skip Bruce Mouat and his rink wrapped up their preliminary campaign on Wednesday afternoon, while Rebecca Morrison's women wrap up on Thursday afternoon

The final match-ups will provide must-watch television with the nation willing on Team Mouat and Team Morrison to extend their campaign into the final weekend of the Games.

Radio Times takes a look at what the men's and women's Team GB curlers need to qualify for the next round.

Winter Olympics 2026 curling permutations: How can Team GB qualify?

Men's team

Bruce Mouat's men defeated USA 9-2 inside six ends today. This has cemented a final record of five wins, four defeats.

Team GB will qualify for the semi-finals if one of Italy or Norway lose their final match.

If either Italy or Norway win their final match, they will guarantee one of the remaining two qualification places with a record of five wins. This would be level with Team GB in terms of victories, but the first tie-breaker in curling is head-to-head record.

Italy and Norway have already defeated Mouat's side in the competition, meaning each of them would take precedent ahead of the Brits should they draw level in terms of wins.

Next match: N/A – the men's team has completed their preliminary campaign.

Women's team

Rebecca Morrison's women are in a world of trouble despite the skip's majestic stone to steal a win against USA on Wednesday to keep their dream alive. They boast a record of three wins and four defeats.

Team GB must defeat Japan and Italy in their final two matches and Switzerland must defeat United States and Denmark in order to qualify.

The top four teams have each recorded five wins or more. The Brits can record a maximum of five wins, but can only dislodge USA due to beating them in the preliminaries.

Team GB require Switzerland to keep USA on five victories and also put down a late charge from Denmark. Canada's final shootout with South Korea is relatively unimportant for the Brits as they defeated Canada – and therefore hold the head-to-head advantage – and cannot overtake Korea regardless.

Next match: versus Japan (6:05pm, Wednesday 18th February)
