The Lionesses reached a third consecutive major tournament final in dramatic style and reaffirmed their place as the continent's comeback queens with a 2-1 extra-time win over the Italians.

The defending champions went into the game as heavy favourites but fell behind to Barbara Bonansea's first-half strike and were seconds from a shock exit before Michelle Agyemang fired in a stoppage-time equaliser.

Fellow substitute Chloe Kelly bagged the winner late in extra-time to put England one victory away from another European crown.

ITV's coverage of the dramatic last-four clash has returned the broadcaster's biggest ratings of 2025 so far.

A peak of 10.2 million viewers watched across all devices, which is the biggest peak audience of the year across ITV1 and ITVX, while the match also helped make Tuesday the biggest day of the year for ITVX with 17.2m streams.

England v Italy averaged 8 million viewers across all devices and delivered ITV's biggest audience amongst all adults and the 16-34 demographic for overnight ratings in 2025.

As a result of their defiant victory, Sarina Wiegman's side have booked their place in the Euro 2025 final in Basel on Sunday, which will be shown by both the BBC (BBC One/BBC iPlayer from 4pm) and ITV (ITV1/ITVX from 3:30pm).

Laura Woods will, once again, lead ITV's coverage of the final, and will be joined in the studio by Ian Wright, Emma Hayes and Karen Carney.

The Lionesses will find out their final opponents on Wednesday evening, when pre-tournament favourites Spain take on eight-time winners Germany.

England have history with both sides – having beaten Germany in the Euro 2022 final and lost to Spain in the World Cup final the following year.
