The beloved series have been nominated in the best dramatic presentation, short-form category, with specific episodes being recognised.

Doctor Who's The Story and the Engine, which saw Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor arrive in Lagos, Nigeria to face an enigmatic figure known as the Barber, is nominated alongside the episode The Road to the Spear from The Wheel of the Time, which showed Rand face the forgotten history of his family (featuring actor Josha Stradowski playing various different characters).

Two episodes from Apple TV's Murderbot, starring Alexander Skarsgård, have been nominated, alongside the brilliant first episode of Pluribus, and the gripping final episode of Severance season 2.

With The Wheel of Time being cancelled last year, fans and the team behind the show have been particularly vocal about its nomination.

Showrunner Rafe Judkins said: "Congrats to the whole team on the show for this one! The work they did on this episode was next level and brought to life one of my favourite sequences in the entire book series. Honoured to be in such great company."

The Hugo Award is an honour recognising the best science fiction or fantasy works and achievements. The 2026 winners will be announced at a ceremony in LA on 30 August, with the winners being decided by votes from the World Science Fiction Convention voting.

"The 2026 Hugo Award ballot reflects the wide spectrum of contemporary science fiction and fantasy," said convention chair Joyce Lloyd.

"This shortlist highlights established voices and emerging creators. These are works that comfort us in hard times and challenge us to not only envision, but to work towards, better tomorrows and more inclusive worlds."

The Wheel of Time is available to watch on Prime Video. Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. Severance, Pluribus and Murderbot are available to stream on Apple TV.
