It's been a short run for Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 2, with the season coming to an end after just 10 episodes (compared to season 1's 28).

The anime, which follows immortal elf mage Frieren on her journey to the resting place of souls, has proven a popular adaptation of the widely-loved manga.

So, naturally, fans are looking to the future of the anime - but it looks like they're going to have a long wait ahead of them for any more episodes.

Will there be a Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 3?

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has not yet been renewed for season 3 and, if it is, the episodes likely won't be coming any time soon.

The manga has been on an indefinite hiatus since October 2025, reportedly due to its creators, Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe focusing on their health.

While nothing has been confirmed, it seems unlikely that a season 3 will be announced while this hiatus is ongoing.

When could a potential Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 3 be released?

If Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is renewed for season 3, we wouldn't expect to see it any earlier than 2028.

Even before the manga hiatus, season 2 premiered almost two and a half years after season 1. We'd expect that timeline to continue - and for there to potentially be a delay on top of that too.

What is the plot of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End?

The official synopsis for the show reads: "After the party of heroes defeated the Demon King, they restored peace to the land and returned to lives of solitude. Generations pass, and the elven mage Frieren comes face to face with humanity’s mortality.

"She takes on a new apprentice and promises to fulfil old friends’ dying wishes. Can an elven mind make peace with the nature of life and death? Frieren embarks on her quest to find out."

As for what season 3 could cover? We'll have to wait until new chapters of the manga are released!
