As tensions rise, cracks begin to show and drama will surely follow, especially in the case of The Fortune Hotel season 2.

The show returns to screens tonight (6th August) with the promise of brand new challenges and never-before-seen twists - one of which RadioTimes.com exclusively revealed, as host Stephen Mangan delivered a shocking blow to the contestants that not all of them would make it to the hotel to play the high-stakes game.

But as the series continues, there are plenty more dramatic moments on the way, particularly between the pairs as their relationships wear thin as they take part in new Day Trip challenges filled with "devious surprises".

Speaking of the teams themselves, Mangan told RadioTimes.com and other press that the pairs began to learn more about each other "than perhaps they want to know as the series goes on".

He teased: "I mean, it's one thing being a pair against everybody else, [but] it's really dramatic when the pairs start to fall apart themselves, and there is a bit of that in this series.

"Like I said, some people got to know a little bit more than they wanted to about their partners, because it's a lot of money, and people do odd things and behave in odd ways.

"And you see somebody, you think you might know them inside out. Well, you don't."

Like with any reality series that continually returns, the players are aware of how the game has been played before as they adapt their strategy in order to take home a whopping £250,000.

"It's brilliant getting a second series, because you can really lean into the stuff that people at home loved in the first series," Mangan said of season 2.

"And there's more of that - more great challenges, more twists and turns, more drama. But also, a second series means that all the contestants have already seen the show.

"It was a brand new show for the first series, no one had seen it, no one knew what to expect. Now they've all come with a game plan, so our job is to keep throwing them curveballs, so they can never relax and they never know what's coming."

The Fortune Hotel begins on Wednesday 6th August at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
