All nine episodes of Detective Hole, the new Netflix adaptation of Jo Nesbø's Harry Hole books, are now available, with fans no doubt bingeing their way through them at rapid speed.

The series stars Tobias Santelmann in the title role, while Joel Kinnaman plays his colleague and nemesis, corrupt cop Tom Waaler. They spar across the episodes, while also trying to bring down a serial killer on the loose in Oslo.

But, given Nesbø has written plenty of books from which the series can draw inspiration, will there be a second season on the way?

Read on for everything you need to know about the potential for a Detective Hole season 2.

We don't yet know whether there will be a Detective Hole season 2, as it will likely depend on viewing figures for the show's first run.

However, the team behind the show, including Nesbø and Tobias Santelmann, have expressed interest in returning if the opportunity arises, and there are certainly more Harry Hole books to be adapted.

There are currently 13 novels in Nesbø's series in total, with only the fifth, The Devil's Star, and elements of the stories leading up to it, having currently been used in the Netflix show thus far.

We will keep this page updated as and when we get any more updates on the show's future.

When would a potential Detective Hole season 2 be released?

It's hard to say when a potential Detective Hole season 2 would be released on Netflix, given that the show hasn't actually been renewed yet.

At the moment, we can only look to the production timeline of the first season for guidance, which was announced in March 2024, before camera started rolling in May of the same year. It then took nearly two years for the season to be released, meaning that if season 2 follows a similar timeline, we could have a wait on our hands.

At this point, a 2028 release date might seem most likely - however, we will make sure to update this page with any more concrete information as we get it.

Who would return to star in a potential Detective Hole season 2?

If Detective Hole were to return for a second season, then there's only one actor we're certain would be back — Tobias Santelmann as the titular Harry Hole.

Beyond that we could also expect figures such as Pia Tjelta's Rakel Fauke and Ellen Helinder's Beate Lønn to return for more episodes, while those less likely to return include Ingrid Bolsø Berdal as Ellen Gjelten and Joel Kinnaman as Tom Waaler, after their characters were killed off throughout the first season.

Is there a trailer for Detective Hole season 2?
