Having only premiered on Sunday 18th May, it's a speedy renewal for the drama, which became a quick hit for the broadcaster and the subject of plenty of glowing reviews and social commentary.

Our own RadioTimes.com write-up said of the series that "in a TV landscape which is still sorely lacking in disabled representation, Code of Silence is the blueprint".

The series saw Ayling-Ellis take on the leading role as police canteen worker and skilled lip reader Alison Brooks, whose lip-reading skills catch the attention of two officers who recruit Alison for a covert operation.

There were plenty of twists and turns in store, but wholly, viewers agreed that Code of Silence was quite unlike anything within the crime drama genre, managing to pull off those gripping twists while also shining an important light on deaf, disabled, and neurodiverse communities.

So, it's a grand thing that it's returning for even more episodes!

On the announcement of the series renewal, lead actress Ayling-Ellis said: "I’m so proud that Code of Silence has been recommissioned.

"The response to the first series has been incredible, and it means so much to be part of a drama that not only keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, but also puts a Deaf character at the heart of the story.

"I’m really excited to see where Alison’s journey goes next and to be working again with the wonderful cast, crew and creative team behind the show."

The series comes from Hijack and Baptiste writer Catherine Moulton, who also commented on the renewal and said: "I’m thrilled by the response to the first series of Code of Silence and so excited to be bringing Alison back for another case.

"It’s been a privilege to tell a story that opens up representation of the Deaf community, while also delivering suspense and twists.

"Rose brings so much heart and complexity to the role and I can’t wait to get started on the next chapter with her, ITV and the brilliant team at Mammoth."

As for what season 2 will bring, we don't yet know, but we're sure that this is only the beginning of Alison's story.

As teased by ITV drama commissioner Callum Dziedzic, we can expect "another gripping case", with Dziedzic also saying in a statement: "We are unbelievably proud of Code of Silence, and it’s been a joy seeing audiences embrace it - especially their love for the skilful, headstrong, and effortlessly loveable Alison.

"Rose brings her to life with real charm and depth, and Catherine’s brilliant concept gave her the perfect world to step into.

"We can’t wait to share another gripping case, with Alison’s talents and perspective delivering a thriller that’s pulse-pounding, distinctive, and like nothing else on TV."

As of now, no further details have been given about the future of Code of Silence, but we do know that the finale left on quite the good note for Alison, with her being £50,000 richer and eyeing up a future as a forensic lip reader.

The cast of season 1 also included the likes of Ghosts star Charlotte Ritchie and Black Doves' Andrew Buchan, as well as Kieron Moore, Nathan Armarkwei Laryea, Joe Absolom and Fifi Garfield.

As for whether they'll be reprising their roles for the second outing, we'll just have to wait and see.

All six episodes of Code of Silence are now available to stream on ITVX.
