Bookish season 2 gets major update from Mark Gatiss – here's how soon we can expect it to return
Book is back!

Mark Gatiss's detective series Bookish has received some big news on its upcoming second season, and it may be arriving sooner than you think.
The drama, the first season of which is currently airing on U&Alibi but is available to watch in full on Sky, Virgin, BT and TalkTalk, was renewed for a second season before it even began airing.
Now, with the show garnering plenty of attention from viewers, creator Mark Gatiss has provided an update via the U&Alibi Instagram page.
In a post shared on Friday afternoon (1st August), Gatiss posed next to a sign reading "Bookish season 2 read through".
The post's caption read: "Today, we had a read through of the brilliant scripts for Bookish Series 2! Roll on 2026."
This appears to suggest that the second season will be airing next year, following plenty of speculation about when it could arrive.
It had previously been reported that filming on season 2 was set to begin in summer 2025, with the read-through seemingly confirming that filming can't be too far away.
As for when the show could return in 2026, that remains to be seen, but a summer 2026 release seems feasible considering how quick the turnaround has been so far.
Created by and starring Gatiss, previously of Doctor Who, Sherlock and The League of Gentlemen fame among others, Bookish follows Gabriel Book, the owner of an antique bookshop in 1946 London as he helps the police solve a variety of puzzling cases.
Every two episodes, Book takes on a new case, with various story threads running throughout the series, some of which are set to be continued in the upcoming season 2.
To that end, it has been confirmed that all of the central cast of season 1 will be reprising their roles, with Gatiss set to be joined once more by Polly Walker, Connor Finch, Elliot Levey, Blake Harrison and Buket Kömür.
