Last night on TV: Get Your Act Together, Call the Midwife and Foyle’s War according to Twitter
Fans welcomed back Call the Midwife with open arms, and bid a teary, final farewell to ITV's Foyle's War
Last night was a bumper night for TV, with plenty to please period drama fans, as well as a new entertainment format. While Call the Midwife returned for its much-anticipated fourth series on BBC1, Foyles War bowed out after 13 popular years and ITV introduced its new celeb reality show Get Your Act Together.
So what was the verdict from telly-watchers the nation over? Let’s see what social media has to say…
Call the Midwife fans, celebrity and otherwise, were pleased to have the heart-warming 60s-set drama back:

Has there ever been another TV series that has made moral goodness so interesting & emotionally engaging as #CallTheMidwife?

To celebrate the return of Call the Midwife I'm wearing a cardigan, and sensible shoes.

And to be welcoming a new face among the Nonnatus nuns. Charlotte Ritchie’s mum might have been nervous…
My character Barbara Gilbert appears in tonight's episode of Call The Midwife at 8pm. My mum's nervous.
— Charlotte Ritchie (@Charitchie) January 18, 2015
But a quick scan of social media reveals she had no need to be:
Call the Midwife never disappoints, love the new Midwife too, aww??

A cracking start to #CallTheMidwife tonight. There's still lots more life in this show, despite departures. New midwife and great storyline.
— Andrew Connell (@andrewiconnell) January 18, 2015
It wasn’t an entirely happy return though. The episode had plenty of viewers reaching for the tissues…

Yet the first instalment still managed to end on a happy note, when Trixie and curate Tom got engaged, something Twitter was fully behind.
Aw. Aw. Aw. Aw. Aw. Trixie got engaged!

While others were already campaigning for the show to return…
Thankyou @AnthonyHorowitz for a sweet close to #FoylesWar. Michael Kitchen & gang were fab. What next? #YoungFoyle
— Missy (@notreallyherre) January 18, 2015
The last ever Foyles War - noooo - it can't be true - there has to be at least one or two specials left in them - maybe one a year?
— Terry Greer (@terry_g_greer) January 18, 2015
Please PLEASE @AnthonyHorowitz – don’t let that be the last #FoylesWar. I will be desolate without Michael Kitchen in my life…
— ⚡️Debbie⚡️ (@DebJ7171) January 19, 2015
Not that everyone was that impressed with the show’s conclusion…

If period drama’s not your cup of tea, there was still plenty to entertain last night, when ITV introduced its new entertainment format: Get Your Act Together. Though it would seem Twitter wasn’t, erm, entirely convinced…
This is funny because I'm sure a lot of people would tell ITV's entertainment commissioners to 'Get Your Act Together' #GYAT
— Matt (@iMattG5) January 18, 2015
'Get Your Act Together' should've been called 'Run Out Of Ideas for Sunday Night Telly' #GYAT
— Weasel (@KatieWeasel) January 18, 2015
No *you* get your act together, ITV. #GYAT

#GYAT Britain's Got Strictly Tumble Stars in Their Eyes. Can't see this being good.
— Ken Barlow (@I_am_KenBarlow) January 18, 2015
It did have one famous fan, though, The Hotel’s Mark Jenkins:
I love the plate spinning on #GYAT it so reminds me of the Generation game !
