A new CBeebies series is set to bring Game of Wool winner Holger Auffenberg’s hand-knitted frogs to life – and now Radio Times can share an exclusive first-look trailer.

The live-action puppet series, which is being narrated by comedy star Sue Perkins, follows the adventures of a trio of amphibian friends who have been crafted by Auffenberg as they navigate life together in a suburban house.

The trailer (above) shows the frogs getting up to all sorts of mischief when the house is empty, from dressing up, to putting up a tent outside in the garden and dancing.

The footage also gives us a glimpse of Bertie the Dog, who appears to be joining the frogs on their adventures.

The series, which was created by Massimo Fenati and commissioned by Rai Kids, Italy, was announced back in March.

Fenati said at the time in a statement: "Nowadays children’s toys often come with a set of building instructions and very little room left for their fantasy, so I wanted to make a show that could inspire them to be as imaginative and creative as possible.

"And who could be best to front a show of this kind than three charming frogs made of wool?"

He added: "Employing the very talented Holger Auffenberg to knit them and dress them, a top team of puppeteers to animate them, an enthusiastic crew to produce it, and the voice of brilliant Sue Perkins to narrate it, made the project come together. And the fun I had making it has taken me back to my fond childhood memories."

Auffenberg said: "Working on the Froglets was such a joyful, positive experience. I started developing the characters more or less immediately after filming for The Game of Wool wrapped, and I loved to immerse myself completely into their world and the way they interact with ours.

"Designing and making all their various outfits, while incredibly fiddly, was an absolute dream from a fashion perspective, as many of the usual restrictions went out of the window, and it gave me the opportunity to adapt the way I usually work to brand new dimensions – froggy style!"

He continued: “It feels like a truly wholesome project to be involved with, and I think the love for the craft and the innocent charm of these green little rascals really shines through in the final product.”

Tess Cuming is executive producing, while Riccardo Mastropietro serves as director and producer of the episodes.

Froglets will air on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.
