Summary
More automobile restorations and auctions.
More automobile restorations and auctions.
It’s quite the twist. Having peeked behind the scenes of classic car auctioneers Mathewsons for seven seasons, the second series of the Bangers and Cash spin-off finds the team taking matters into their own hands. They purchase one of the few remaining Mondeo Turbos, which is in such ravaged condition that its engine hasn’t been started since the 1990s, and an original Shellmax globe that once perched atop a petrol pump.
The aim is to buy as cheaply as possible, restore, re-sell (via Mathewsons) and make a profit. Needless to say, and not merely because Derek Mathewson takes a detour to share his views on modern art (“I think most people out there know my views on Picasso”), everything doesn’t go quite as planned.
Meanwhile, we revisit Spiney Norman, a scout troop’s bus 50 years ago and before that, a transport that ferried RAF personnel from terminal to aircraft. The original auction went badly, but three years on, to the delight of a group of former sixers now in their 60s, restoration has given Norman a third lease of life.
