Dispatch devs prepare for "getting our ass kicked," despite their nine BAFTA nominations
"I like getting our ass kicked by folks that we like."

Ahead of the BAFTA Games Awards with Google Play, which is taking place this Friday (17 April), we caught up with the team behind Dispatch.
The choice-based superhero title has a whopping nine nominations, and a number of the game’s developers, plus Blond Blazer actor Erin Yvette, met us in London to talk about their impressive number of nods.
We also spoke about their lack of beef with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has been hoovering up gongs at every other ceremony this year.
"We're used to having a bunch of nominations and coming home with no awards," joked creative director Nick Herman, "so we're keeping expectations muted."
He added, "This year is such a crazy year. It's so stacked. There's so many great games. The joke that everyone's been making is, it truly is an honour to be nominated this year. It's not just a thing to say, it's like, this is the award for us, is just getting the noms… so we probably didn't even need to come. We could've stayed at home."
"Don't say that," replied Dispatch cast member Erin Yvette. "Don't call it too early." Typical Blond Blazer there, trying to see the positive side of the situation!
On the topic of their nine nominations, the game's other creative director, Dennis Lenart, said, "It's exciting, and then also, it feels intimidating, that, because there's so many of them, it's a number that feels like there's a bit more pressure on it, rather than just, like, 'Oh, we got one chance.'"
Executive producer Michael Choung added, "It's the cliche, but we're just excited to be here and nominated. I mean, we'd love to win, but, you know, we've been to a few others and we haven't, and we're perfectly fine and happy just being a part of it."
So there's no beef with Clair Obscur or any other game? "No. I mean, the shame of it, and I've said this in other interviews, is that I love that game, and that team did something really incredible.
"So, yeah, if we're gonna get our ass kicked, I like getting our ass kicked by folks that we like."

As much as this is a very admirable stance, here’s hoping that Dispatch does go home with something on Friday night. After all, the BAFTAs can sometimes surprise you.
