Manchester City rarely splash the cash in the January transfer window but with the Premier League title race looking tighter than ever this season, Pep Guardiola could be forced to dip into the market.

The reigning champions are playing catch up in their bid to win the trophy for an unprecedented fourth year in a row, with Liverpool and Aston Villa going strong, while last season's rivals Arsenal are also in the mix.

It is unlikely that City would hit the panic button and any new arrivals could depend on outgoings, with the club also potentially using this window as an opportunity to add future prospects to their squad.

Kalvin Phillips was a big talking point in the January window, with the England midfielder heading to West Ham on loan in search of regular game time.

It's understood there's a buy option in the deal which would see Phillips head to the Hammers for the long term if his spell for the remainder of the season goes well.

In terms of incomings, City have a new signing from Argentina - a happy-hunting ground for the club in recent years - with Claudio Echeverri, 18, heading to the Etihad.

He was snapped up for around £12million from River Plate but he will remain there for the remainder of the season and link up with his new City team-mates in the summer.

In terms of eyes on the summer transfer window, City could wait to make their move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

City could land the German international for around £25m at the end of the season as Guardiola looks to bolster his midfield options, especially if Phillips joins West Ham on a permanent deal.
