In recent years, Lindsay Lohan has made a comeback of sorts with lead roles in a handful of Netflix original movies and a very brief cameo in the 2024 Mean Girls movie musical.

But this week, she's leading her first big-screen release in over a decade, reuniting with Jamie Lee Curtis for a sequel to their 2003 hit Freaky Friday.

As you might expect, the film taps heavily into nostalgia – with Chad Michael Murray another to reprise his role – and our three-star review promised viewers they can get "ready to party like its 2003 all over again".

But Freakier Friday also paves its own way by introducing a younger generation and involving a body swap even more chaotic than before, this time involving not two but four people.

Wondering how you can watch the film to see how it all pans out? Read on for everything you need to know about how to watch Freakier Friday.

How to watch Freakier Friday – is it streaming?

No, Freakier Friday is not currently streaming – as it is first getting an exclusive wide theatrical release.

The film – which first debuted at a splashy LA premiere last month – is released around the world on Friday 8th August, and there will be no shortage of cinemas showing it, so simply check your local for the screening time that suits you.

If you don't fancy a trip to the cinemas then rest assured that the film will eventually be streaming on Disney+, but in the immediate future heading to the pictures will be the only way to see it.

Freakier Friday streaming release date speculation – When might it come to Disney+?

It's not yet been announced exactly when the film will debut on Disney+, but we can make an educated guess based on how long the studio usually leaves between cinematic release and streaming.

Generally, there tends to be a gap of between 80 and 105 days – based on various factors including box office performance – and with that in mind we'd forecast a streaming premiere sometime in November, or late October at the very earliest.

Of course, it's very possible that that could change, and should we hear any concrete information we'll adjust this page accordingly.

If you're hoping to get a Freaky Friday fix at home sooner rather than later, then there a couple of options on the streamer that can keep you busy while you wait, including the previous 2003 film.

There's also the original 1976 Freaky Friday film – which starred Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris – and the 2018 made-for-TV musical version, based on the stage show and starring Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff.

Meanwhile, fans can also find a very brief special look at the new film, with combines behind-the-scenes footage with some snippets of Lohan and Curtis in conversation.
