The first-ever stage adaptation of Midsomer Murders hit UK playhouses last October, and is now preparing for another run of shows in 2026.

The play – which earned a five-star review from Radio Times.com – is an adaptation of the ITV drama's first on-screen story and the debut novel by Caroline Graham: Killings at Badger's Drift.

Following the incident in which well-loved spinster Emily Simpson is found dead in her picturesque village home, the show sees the return of DCI Tom Barnaby, who is now incidentally played by the series' original sidekick Daniel Casey.

Casey previously played hapless assistant, Sergeant Troy, and during a chat with RadioTimes.com he assured us that this new adaptation would be "completely faithful to the original".

He said: "It will be really true to the ethos of the show, if you’re a fan of the television series, you’re going to love the play.

"They’ll have the Rainbirds there, don’t worry!"

Now, if that wasn't proof enough, the play has dropped a full-length trailer showing the new Barnaby and Troy in action, which you can watch at the top of this article.

With dramatic shots of all the villagers – AKA, suspects – and the two detectives arriving at the scene, we get a real inside look at what's in store for audiences.

Perhaps the most well-loved story in Midsomer history, Casey told us that the play was "always" going to be Badger's Drift.

He added: "It’s such a great story, it’s so dark and twisted and all the characters are so large and weird and wonderful that it really lends itself to the stage.

"Overall, the TV programme has an inherent theatricality about it. British actors play these village eccentrics inherently well and the characters sit so beautifully within that theatrical space."

The show will pick up its UK tour in Truro this January before heading onto the likes of Glasgow, Nottingham, Derby and more. It will then finish up in Bath this June.

Tickets for the show are still available at ATG Tickets or the respective venue ticketing sites.
