Stuck in Love

The romantic trials of a father and his two teenage children are at the heart of this low-key comedy drama. The almost-too-beautiful cast is led by Greg Kinnear as a famous novelist who refuses to give up hope of reconciliation with his ex-wife (Jennifer Connelly), despite that fact that she has remarried: he still sets a place for her at the Thanksgiving dinner he shares with his cynical novelist daughter (Lily Collins) and son (Nat Wolff), who is also an aspiring writer. As this gentle tale unfolds, both Collins and Wolff gain new and - naturally - complicated love interests, while Kinnear stubbornly refuses to move on. Writer/director Josh Boone has made a quiet romantic fantasy, complete with downbeat indie soundtrack, which in its own way is as unrealistic as any blockbuster but a perfectly pleasant watch.
