Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

This engaging, low-key drama is a film about family, business and success. Set in the heartland of Iowa, it casts Dennis Quaid as a seed salesman who runs a farm that's been in his family for generations. He really wants this tradition to continue, but his oldest son is travelling the world, while his youngest (Zac Efron) is determined to become a racing driver. Quaid has other problems, too, since he is losing customers to a successful rival (Clancy Brown). As these dilemmas unfold, Quaid offers one of the best performances of his career, conveying a flawed man who is struggling - and failing - to connect with his offspring. The story, co-written and directed by Ramin Bahrani (99 Homes) isn't particularly satisfying, but the film is built around a handful of complex, relatable characters.
