Second World War action adventure starring Edward Fox and Denholm Elliott. In 1945, following the destruction of the bridge over the River Kwai, the Japanese decide to move the Allied PoWs to Japan where they will serve as slave labourers. During the journey, an American pilot and a British commando plan a daring escape.
Although there is no direct link between this Second World War adventure and David Lean's 1957 classic film, comparisons are inevitable. Set two years after Lean's seven times Oscar winner starring Alec Guinness, this recounts with a certain level of realism PoW life in the Far East during the closing months of the war. Needless to say, this doesn't come close in terms of acting or direction, but it still manages to be a tough, grim action movie with a cast of notable names in Edward Fox, Denholm Elliott and Chris Penn.
