A well-spoken couple arrives in the East End; the wife is pregnant but she has a headache, so she joins the oiks at the NHS clinic in the parish hall for a check-up. But a noisy slattern takes exception to the posh lady, who storms out. Thus a train of events is set in motion that gives gentle midwife Cynthia (Bryony Hannah) the biggest emotional test of her young life.
There is light relief as Chummy (Miranda Hart) takes her relationship with Constable Noakes a bit further and her colleagues give her tips on being coquettish. But the smiles fade when a young dad looks into his baby daughter’s pram. She’s not there.
