In October 2011, London’s Savoy Hotel launched its first Stompin’ at the Savoy music event (named after the jazz classic composed by Edgar Sampson), continuing the venue’s reputation for top-class cabaret that dates back to the 1880s. This Stompin’ features Beverley Knight, Tony Christie, Paloma Faith and some old-style Vegas pizzazz in the shape of Buddy Greco ushering in 2012 with what should be a glittering occasion topped off by fireworks over the Thames as Big Ben strikes 12.
However, with tickets costing close to £1,000 it’s not for everyone’s pocket. So despite fireworks on the radio not being much of a spectacle, you might want to leave the tux in the wardrobe for another year, light a sparkler and enjoy Radio 2’s coverage from the comfort of your armchair.
