Wednesday has been confirmed already for season 3 – before season 2 even arrives on our screens.

The Addams Family-based series, starring Jenna Ortega as the macabre-loving teen, has proven a massive hit for Netflix.

Now, their site TUDUM has confirmed there will be more mysterious, and spooky, goings on beyond the episodes set for release next month.

Speaking about the confirmation, co-creator and co-showrunner Alfred Gough writes: “Our goal for season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can.

“We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.”

Miles Millar, fellow co-creator and co-showrunner added: "We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in season 3!"

Wednesday has proven to be a smash hit for Netflix, with season 1 maintaining the title of most-watched British-Language title of all time on the service.

Season 2 of Wednesday will be split into two parts – with the first half of the season dropping on 6th August, before the second half arrives on 3rd September.

It will pick up with Wednesday as she returns to Nevermore Academy after a hectic first year at the supernatural school for gifted children.

With best friend/werewolf Enid (Emma Myers) by her side, she soon finds herself in the middle of a brand new mystery to solve.

There’s also a host of new faces gracing the school’s halls – notably Steve Buscemi, who plays the new principal Barry Dort, and Lady Gaga as teacher Rosaline Rotwood.

Back this season is Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Wednesday’s overly affectionate parents, Gomez and Morticia.

Joy Sunday will be back as siren Bianca Barclay, and Hunter Doohan will also be back as hyde-being Tyler Galpin.

Billie Piper will also be gracing the Academy as Isadora Capri, the school’s new head of music who takes a special interest in Enid’s talents, while Thandiwe Newton plays a psychiatrist in charge of looking after the volatile Tyler at Willow Hill Psychiatric Facility.

Wednesday season 1 is available to stream on Netflix. Season 2 will arrive on 6th August.
