The Testaments release schedule: When is episode 4 out on Disney+ ?

The first three episodes of The Testaments are now available to stream on Disney+, returning us to the totalitarian republic of Gilead that was first explored in the Emmy award-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale.

The spin-off, which is created by The Handmaid’s Tale showrunner Bruce Miller, is set years after the events of the original series and is a coming-of-age story that focuses on a new generation of women in Gilead.

Among them are Agnes, played by One Battle After Another star Chase Infiniti, who is the daughter of a high-ranking Gilead commander, and new arrival Daisy (Lucy Halliday), who has travelled from Canada to become one of the students at Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives.

The Handmaid’s Tale’s star, Elisabeth Moss, is also on board for the sequel as an executive producer, and she has already returned on-screen as her character, June, in the first and third episodes of the new series.

Miller explained in an interview with Radio Times the reason why June is back for the sequel.

“I was certainly thinking all the way along that The Testaments is a story told from different points of view, and those characters are connected to some of the characters in The Handmaid’s Tale," he said.

"Although we're not in any way trying to do season 7 of The Handmaid's Tale, they get a little fun out of it – the overarching idea that there's a June out there for all of us, someone watching out for us, is comforting in a world like The Testaments."

The Testaments season 1 episode 4 will be released on Wednesday 15 April on Disney+

The episode is called Green Tea and is written by Elise Brown, who also worked on Yellowjackets and the true crime drama Candy, starring Jessica Biel.

Disney+ released the first three episodes of The Testaments together on Wednesday 8 April.

What is The Testaments about?

The Testaments is described as a “new chapter” in The Handmaid’s Tale story and is based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood that is also set in Gilead.

Agnes is one the students at Aunt Lydia’s elite school there, where teenage girls are taught how to be dutiful future wives for the commanders and prominent members of Gilead society. She is the adopted daughter of Commander MacKenzie and his wife Tabitha, and also June’s stolen first daughter, who was originally named Hannah.

The synopsis for the new series indicates there will be trouble ahead for Agnes and her fellow students: “The series follows young teens Agnes, dutiful and pious, and Daisy, a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead’s borders.

"As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.”
