Will there be a The Gone season 3?
The Ireland-New Zealand co-production sees two detectives tackle missing persons cases.

International co-productions are all the rage right now, splitting up the costly business of making television and leading to some interesting new collaborations.
Irish broadcaster RTÉ and New Zealand's TVNZ are the forces behind detective drama The Gone, which has gripped fans over two seasons with dark stories of mysterious disappearances.
The latest entry saw crime-solving duo Theo Richter (Richard Flood) and Diana Huia (Acushla-Tara Kupe) brought back together after a shared associate vanishes under worrying circumstances.
The Gone has developed a cult following on BBC iPlayer, where both seasons are currently available to stream, leading fans to question whether they can expect a third chapter in the series.
If you're part of that group, here's everything we know so far about the future of The Gone.
Will there be a The Gone season 3?
It is yet to be announced whether The Gone has been renewed for season 3 or cancelled.
The crime drama is a co-production between New Zealand's TVNZ and Ireland's RTÉ, so the decision will rest with those parties regarding whether the show's viewership is robust enough to warrant more.
However, the show's popularity internationally – such as here in the UK, where it's aired by the BBC – may be a factor in the decision, so the best action you can take for The Gone at this time is to simply spread the word.
We'll update this page with more information on the status of The Gone as it comes in.
When could a potential The Gone season 3 be released?
The Gone had an approximately 18-month-long production cycle, with season 1 airing first in New Zealand from May 2023, while season 2 returned to the country in October 2024.
Of course, fans based in the UK had to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the episodes, as The Gone seasons 1 and 2 finally appeared on the BBC in March 2024 and July 2025 respectively – roughly 9-10 months later.
Therefore, while episodes could conceivably be ready by spring/summer 2026, it's possible we wouldn't see them until some time later unless the current trend collapses entirely.
Who could star in a potential The Gone season 3?

If The Gone were to be renewed for a third season, it's quite likely that Richard Flood and Acushla-Tara Kupe as Theo Richter and DS Diana Huia.
Here's an overview of the supporting players in seasons 1 and 2, who could potentially return in some capacity:
- Carolyn Bracken as Aileen Ryan
- Vanessa Rare as Wiki Huia

- Wayne Hapi as Buster Huia
- Rachel Morgan as Sinead Martin
- Michelle Fairley as Hannah Martin
- Simon Mead as Ronan Garvey
