Will there be a Ballard season 2? Speculation and latest news
Could we be getting more of the Bosch spin-off?

*Warning: This article contains spoilers for Ballard season 1.*
Having just premiered earlier this month, Prime Video's Ballard has quickly risen to the top of the streamer's charts and is clearly quite the hit already.
The Bosch spin-off series centres on Renée Ballard (played by Maggie Q) – who made her debut in the third season of Bosch: Legacy – as she leads the LAPD's new and underfunded cold case division.
While she's determined to dig into the city's long-forgotten cases with an all-new team, she soon discovers that there's something much bigger at play within the LAPD and starts to sniff out a dangerous conspiracy.
Since its premiere, series star Maggie Q has admitted that she has "no sense" about whether the show will be picked up for a second season.
But what is the latest news on a potential second season of Ballard? Read on for everything we know so far.
Will there be a Ballard season 2?

As of now, Prime Video has not renewed Ballard for season 2.
However, seeing as the series has only just premiered this month and is part of the wider Bosch universe (with Bosch going on for a total of seven seasons), there's a lot of hope that Ballard will be back for more.
Speaking about the possibility of a second season, Maggie Q told The Hollywood Reporter: "I have no sense. This industry is not what it was before.
"It’s barely recognisable to me, and shows are so expendable. They can throw out a show in two seconds, and it doesn’t make a ton of difference that whole worlds and livelihoods are at stake.
"Studios always have options. But we have a writers' room, and they’ve been writing away. The arc for the second season is very exciting. But I’ve had writers' rooms hired before and then gotten cancelled. So everyone’s like, 'Maggie, of course!' I’m like, 'No, no, no.' There is no 'of course'.
"I am not a negative person at all. I’m a very positive person, but I’m a realist. They sent me reviews this morning and I didn’t want to read them. I’m glad they’re positive, but I don’t want to read them."
When would a potential Ballard season 2 release?
Seeing as Ballard hasn't been renewed just yet, it's hard to tell just when a possible season 2 could be released.
Series star Q has given a bit more insight into the filming schedule, should they get the green light, though.
In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said: "If we get a season 2 of Ballard, I think we’ll be back in the fall to shoot."
So, with a production schedule looking to kick off this year, we could very well be getting Ballard season 2 landing on our screens in 2026.
What could a potential Ballard season 2 be about?

It's safe to say that Ballard season 1 ended on quite the cliffhanger, so there's plenty of material to work with for a potential second season.
Ballard herself was taken off in handcuffs and arrested for the murder of Olivas (Ricardo Chavira), who was found dead in the season finale after a very heated confrontation with Ballard at his home.
Ballard eventually found out in the series that Olivas – as well as being a sexual predator – was also heading up a group of corrupt LAPD officers running a gun network linked to the Zacatecas cartel.
With Ballard having already reported Olivas for attempted sexual assault and with Olivas having assaulted Parker, the pair team up to take him down and gather enough evidence to do so.

However, when Olivas agrees to a deal to dish dirt on his fellow officers in return for his freedom, he walks free. Ballard then visits him at his home to confront him, leaving her DNA behind in the process – but did she actually kill him?
Throughout the series, Ballard and her team also investigated a serial killer who has historically targeted women throughout the city, eventually discovering it was Gary Pearlman (Kevin Dunn), father of councilman Jake (Noah Bean) – the very person who has funded the new cold case unit.
Sadly, Gary kills Rawls (Michael Mosley) once he's found out to be the killer and attempted to also kill Ballard.
With Ballard in cuffs and the identity of Olivas's killer currently unknown, there's a lot to unpack in a potential second season, so we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds.
Who could star in a potential Ballard season 2?
Seeing as the season 1 finale ended with the deaths of Olivas and Rawls, we can't expect to see them appearing in a potential second season. The same goes for Gary, who was arrested for multiple murders and could very well be seen in court scenes.
We'd definitely expect to see Maggie Q reprising her leading role as Ballard, along with her core team, who will undoubtedly be working hard to find out who actually killed Olivas.
Similarly to season 1, we'd expect to see another appearance from Titus Welliver's Harry Bosch, meaning the cast of Ballard we'd expect to see in a potential season 2 is as follows:
- Maggie Q as Detective Renée Ballard
- Courtney Taylor as Samira Parker
- John Carroll Lynch as Thomas Laffont
- Rebecca Field as Colleen Hatteras
- Victoria Moroles as Martina Castro
- Amy Hill as Tutu
- Noah Bean as Jake Pearlman
- Alain Uy as Nelson Hastings
- Hector Hugo as Captain Berchem
- Titus Welliver as Harry Bosch
