Virizion in Pokémon Go: Weakness, counters and Raid Battle dates
Iron Lion Virizion.

One of the many legendary Pokémon from the Unova region, Virizion is a powerful addition to any team in Pokémon Go.
And with the Grass and Fighting-type now in Raids, you'll want to know how to take it down so you can get one of your own.
So, to help you to that end, we've put together a quick explainer on Virizion's weaknesses, the best counters to use, and the dates you'll be able to catch it.
When is Virizion available in Pokémon Go Raid Battles?
Virizion is obtainable in Raid Battles from 10am on 28th July 2025 until 10am on 4th August. Timings are always in local time.
For the best chance of catching yourself a Virizion, there will be a Virizion Raid Hour between 6pm and 7pm local time on 30th July.
As with any Raid, you'll have to battle and defeat Virizion before you have the chance to catch it, so read on for our guide on how best to do it!
Pokémon Go Virizion Raid Battle guide
Virizion is capable of dealing decent damage if you're not careful, but thanks to its typing, you should be able to very easily take it down if you have the right Pokémon on hand – here's what you need to know.
Pokémon Go Virizion Raid Battle weaknesses
Thanks to its dual Grass and Fighting typing, Virizion has a number of weaknesses, but the only one you need to concern yourself is the Flying-type.
Virizion is 4x weak to Flying-type attacks, meaning this is the only type you should be using in your battles against it.
If you don't have any Pokémon at all with strong Flying-type moves, then you can get away with Fire, Psychic, Fairy, Ice and Poison-type moves too, but this is not recommended.
Pokémon Go Virizion Raid Battle counters
The best Pokémon to counter Virizion in Raid Battles is Rayquaza – ideally Mega Rayquaza – with Air Slash and Dragon Ascent.
This will ensure you're doing the highest possible damage, while also maintaining a resistance to Virizion's Fighting-type attacks.
Alternatives to Rayquaza are Shadow Staraptor, Shadow Moltres, Yveltal, Mega Pidgeot and Shadow Honchcrow, all of which should prioritise Flying-type moves like Gust, Wing Attack, Fly and Sky Attack.
