Pokémon Go Steel and Scales explained: Research tasks and Collection Challenges

So, if you're eager to eventually get your hands on the powerful Aegislash, here's what you need to know about the new event.

The Pokémon Go Steel and Scales event runs from 22nd to 27th July 2025.

As well as introducing the Ghost and Steel-type Honedge, players will have a higher chance throughout the event to find shiny Bagon, Beldum and Unown U, with shiny Rookidee also available for the first time.

Perhaps most excitingly, players will also get quadruple XP and Stardust for catching Pokémon!

Pokémon Go Steel and Scales Field Research tasks

During the event, spinning a PokéStop may give you one of the following tasks:

• Catch five Pokémon (1000 XP or 500 Stardust)
• Catch 10 Pokémon (Bagon or Beldum encounter)
• Catch 20 Pokémon (Bronzor or Gible encounter)
• Win a Raid (Goomy, Jangmo-o or Frigibax encounter)

Pokémon Go Steel and Scales Collection Challenges

There are a few different Colletion Challenges to complete in this event, with similar rewards for each of them:

Rookidee Collection Challenge (2000 XP, 1500 Stardust, Rookidee encounter)

• Catch a Rookidee
• Evolve a Rookidee into Corvisquire
• Evolve a Corvisquire into Corviknight

Dratini Collection Challenge (2000 XP, 1500 Stardust, Dratini encounter)

• Catch a Dratini
• Evolve a Dratini into Dragonair
• Evolve a Dragonair into Dragonite

Beldum Collection Challenge (2000 XP, 1500 Stardust, Beldum encounter)

• Catch a Beldum
• Evolve a Beldum into Metang
• Evolve a Metang into Metagross

Bagon Collection Challenge (2000 XP, 1500 Stardust, Bagon encounter)

• Catch a Bagon
• Evolve a Bagon into Shelgon
• Evolve a Shelgon into Salamence

Pokémon Go Steel and Scales boosted spawns

During the Steel and Scales event, the following Pokémon will spawn more frequently:

• Magnemite
• Dratini
• Aron
• Bagon
• Beldum
• Ferroseed
• Axew
• Goomy
• Noibat
• Rookidee

Lastly, the Steel and Scales event will feature the following Pokémon in Raids:

One-Star Raids

• Unown U
• Gible
• Klink
• Deino
• Honedge

Three-Star Raids

• Skarmory
• Bisharp
