God Save Birmingham is a rather bizarre game. Developed by South Korea studio Ocean Drive, the game sees players attempt to survive a zombie outbreak in 14th Century Birmingham.

Since its viral reveal trailer earlier this year, anticipation for the game has been high, as has the number of jokes about Birmingham.

So, when can we actually expect to play God Save Birmingham? Here's what you need to know.

God Save Birmingham release date speculation

At the time of writing, God Save Birmingham is scheduled to release into early access in 2026.

This was confirmed by Ocean Drive's head of publishing Jungsoo Lee in an interview with IGN back in June.

As for the full release, the game's Steam page has this to say:

"After Early Access release, we'll be working for another year or so to complete the town itself, focusing on sandbox-style gameplay and survival challenges.

"After that, we'll spend another year or so creating light story-driven elements that allow players to explore the stories of Birmingham's people as they fight to survive a world gone mad."

God Save Birmingham gameplay and story details

Put simply, God Save Birmingham is a game about zombies in medieval Birmingham – if that's not enough to sell you on it, nothing will.

This is how the game is described on Steam:

"Doom has come to Birmingham, and you are the last soul alive. Survive an undead plague in a painstakingly recreated medieval market town. Manage your needs, master physics-based mechanics, and evade the horde for as long as you can."

The game will be a survival game with light narrative elements, requiring players to fortify buildings, feed themselves to stay alive, and kill zombies using whatever weapons they can find or build.

From what we can tell based on the game's description and trailers, the best parallel we can think of is that it's like a 3D version of Project Zomboid with a medieval setting, and likely a much smaller world.

As for story details, we don't know anything yet aside from the fact that the game will feature narrative elements in the full release.

Is there a God Save Birmingham trailer?

Yes! While it was first revealed with a trailer at last year's Gamescom, the game went viral earlier this year with the following eight-minute gameplay trailer:
